"The worst direct sequel to a great film since Rocky III." (Pretty Bad)
Lethal Weapon is arguably one of the best films ever made, and certainly the best of the Buddy-Cop genre. It offered an exceptional insight into the life of a man who is looking for just one reason to not kill himself and then very, very slowly allows him to develop that reason. It also mixes in some dark humour so that the audience is not left suicidal itself. And while the humour in itself is a magical part of this great film it is also the catalyst for the demise of the ideal as started by the dreadful sequel Lethal Weapon 2. Lethal Weapon 2 is nothing but an extremely bad attempt to create a comedy out of what was a superb first film.Lethal Weapon 2 carries on the story of the relationship between detective Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and his partner Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover). In this ridiculous attempt at a story the Abbott and Costello of cop films are assigned to protect a mob witness, Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) from the nasty bad guys. In this case, the bad guys are South African diplomats who are smuggling drugs under the cloak of "diplomatic immunity". Riggs gets involved with a member of the embassy who looks like Bugs Bunny in drag (only not as good) played by Patsy Kensit. Ms Bunny has a close and ludicrous link to Riggs first, deceased wife, which encapsulates the incredible stupidity of this awful crap. When the bad guys have the heat put on them they start to kill cops. Step in the heroes of the piece to save the day.UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!! Sorry. I had to vomit.I realise that there are Hollywood producers and directors out there that have to maintain their cocaine and hooker habits, not to mention supporting several ex-spouses, same sex lovers, and 90% of the entire Viagara and condom industries. My question is that with all this blowing and fucking going on why do they always have to fuck over great films. Surely there is enough incredibly stupid people out there to support the creation of new and enticing projects involving plots and dialogue that only the brain dead could enjoy. Can’t they leave great cinema alone?Now Lethal Weapon is not all bad. In fact, there is one thing you can say about this garbage that slightly redeems it. It is not as bad as the next two that follow. For one thing, Rene Russo is not in it. For another thing, there is the toilet scene. Granted, any scene involving Rene Russo could also be classified as a toilet scene but this is a good toilet scene. In fact, the best-selling book "The History of Great Toilet Scenes in American Film" says this is the best toilet scene ever. High Fucking Praise indeed! In fact, the only praise this piece of schlock should ever get.For Hollywood BitchSlap, I’m the Godfather.
