It’s Never Too Late to Rediscover the Musician Inside Of You

Do you recall the day you traded in your guitar for a job at the bank or gave up your piano lessons to become a doctor? Have you been thinking about rediscovering your musical roots as soon as your retirement kicks in? Are you still hoping that some day you’ll get to dust off your sax and join the local jam session? If this sounds all too familiar, you’re not alone. In fact, it’s more common than you think for people in the latter stages of life to get the itch to return to their musical beginnings.

Like most closet musicians, you likely arrived at a turning point in your life where you had to decide between the certainty of a job and the uncertainty of a life in the music business. And, like the vast majority, you chose the more stable path. Do you ever wonder though, what it would have been like if you had enough courage to pursue the other path - even if it would have totally freaked your parents out?

As a professional concert pianist I have people say to me all the time that they would give anything to do what I do. A lot of these folks wish they just could turn back the clock and get another shot at it, even if it might not have been the responsible thing to do.

That’s why I’m so grateful for the path I have chosen, not only because I love it but because, I never have to worry about what I might have missed. The truth is; I love music and what it does for my soul. I wake up every day with excitement because I really don’t know what’s going to happen or where I’ll end up. That to me is a gift, not a liability. The only thing certain in my life is uncertainty and that I can always count on.

But, our society is not programmed to think in these terms. We’re groomed in school to play it safe, get a job and pay the bills. It’s definitely the easy thing to do but is it the right thing? I think we were all born to learn something new and exciting every day. For most people who go to the same job day after day, a job they most likely hate - how is this learning?

Many people find themselves at a turning point in their latter years when they think to themselves, “What exactly happened to my dreams?” But, then you think to yourself, “I got married and had kids, it would have been completely irresponsible of me to follow my dreams because so few actually make it.” That’s true, except why couldn’t you have been one of the few?

In any case, I often say to people, “Why don’t you quit your job now while you still can?” To my mind, living every day in a situation you hate will only lead you somewhere you don’t want to go. It’s important to choose a goal in life that you really are passionate about because, that’s what will make your life exciting and challenging. Anybody can get a job.

But, even if you absolutely cannot give up your job, why not take up music seriously at the same time? For now, start practicing in secrecy. Then eventually you’ll be good enough to perform for others. And, if you’re passionate enough, you may even get to be the performer that you’ve always admired from a distance. You know, the one you’ve often cheered for with mixed delight and sorrow because, you know you could have been that person?

The good news, it’s not too late!

Take my friend Bruce for example. With three years left to go to his retirement as a bank executive, he reintroduced himself to blues guitar. Shortly thereafter he reunited his high school band and now they’re actually booking themselves for dances, concerts and private functions.

And, my friend Mary Ann is doing the same thing. She had a music degree in classical piano which, she eventually gave up to become a family doctor. Now, several years later she’s formed a jazz quartet with some friends and another doctor on drums, and the band performs at least 5 nights a month around town.

These are just two examples of people who understand that they can have it all; both a successful professional career and a life in music. Like them, you don’t have to wait for your retirement to get back to doing what you love.

So next time you feel the need to rejuvenate your life with music, come on out of the closet. Because, the truth of the matter is the only thing stopping you, is you. Take my advice and start living your life the way you want and not the way everyone else expects of you. Live the rest of your life doing what you love because, the only risk in life is not taking one.

High-Order Co-Occurrence and Search Engines Optimimization (SEO)

Latent Semantic Analysis is not purely about words. LSA can also be used with other objects, like for example images, events, optically recognized text and as a problem-solving technique (Latent Problem Solving Analysis, LPSA).

Latent Semantic Analysis itself is not co-occurrence. Typically, more than 95% of word-pairs with great similarity will never appear together in a given paragraph. If these words were to cooccur in the same document, their cosine similarity is not high. But with that said, If words never co-occur, their cosine can still be high.

Latent Semantic Analysis neglects the word order. This is another problem. The solution? There is a ” Syntagmatic Paradigmatic Model” which is a memory based mechanism that incorporates the word order, but it does preserve the distributional approach. It addresses the problem of word order and polysemy. It is well known that LSA not necessarily accounts terms with different meanings in different contexts or keyword sequences. The different different senses and meanings of a word are not predetermined in any kind of mental lexicon, but because of the generative lexicon, they emerge in the context.

Vectors in Latent Semantic Analysis are context-free, but not the meaning. It is context-dependent. This is a problem. The solution? By combining Latent Semantic Analysis with the Construction-Integration (CI) Model of comprehension, word meanings can be made context sensitive.

How Search Engine Optimization Can Help Your Organization

The world over organizations are employing low cost techniques in different business processes. Production work is getting outsourced to churn out low cost products. Consultancy is taken from a distant nation to bring in quality and reduce service cost. Educational tutorials are taken through e-learning system. Whats common to all these - INTERNET, which is helping them to connect easily and deliver in time. In this scenario, companies have shown keen interest in their website. They now take them as virtual offices that should look pretty good in design & content and should reach millions and billions of people worldwide. So International marketing has come to limelight and metamorphised into Internet Marketing.

Internet Marketing is done in a variety of ways, the most noticeable being Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). SEO has given a new life to websites. It is making their presence felt in a galaxy of websites scattered over the virtual world of Internet. SEO has more to do with rankings that get noticed than just listings at any page of a search engine result. Here is how SEO can benefit your organization:

Benefits, plentiful!

You can battle with your competitor on a level playing field no matter whether he belongs to Fortune-500 club or is a small entity. The natural (or organic) listings in Search Engines get much more clicks than the paid “Sponsored” links. Only SEO makes this difference. Even if bigger competitors pump in more money to get top listed through paid links, they cannot beat a well marketed SEOed website. It is a truth & it matters!

Rankings bring traffic. Higher rankings get significant traffic. A website that gets top ranks is known to get business enquiries in abundance particularly when the keyword is competitive. SEO gets you at top and maintains it there all the time. It assures you a constant flow of new prospects and new business. All that may be done at a salary of an average single employee. Isn’t it worth investing!

Opportunities are bagful on Internet. It is often seen that a brand’s associates / affiliates rank higher than the brand itself. This is all because they bagged the first opportunity and held to SEO bandwagon long before the Brand realized SEO’s importance. Result has been phenomenonal business through Internet. All thanks to Search Engine Optimization!

Businesses spend on email marketing, online banner advertising, paid search engine listings and others to reach exponentially growing Internet users. SEO outclasses all of them. It is estimated to be costing 5-6 times lower than banner advertisement ; has best ROI than paid links when worked for a longer period and highly effective than ’spam’ labeled email marketing. No doubt, SEO is effectively better than the best.

Experts like Forrester Research put SEO one up than Email marketing. In one of their surveys, they state “search engines reach valuable, motivated, and ready customers. To capitalize on search as a marketing tool, marketers should shift acquisition email and ad dollars to search….” Google earns billions of dollars by selling ads through paid advertisement (sponsored links). And the earnings are increasing year-by-year. All these are clear indicators of the importance of search engine importance and the related marketing. Should we say more!

It has been found that search engines though being the top method to find sites on Internet, is allocated a marketing budget by only a small percentage of businesses This gap between recognition of the benefits of Search Engine Optimization and actually doing it is anybody’ opportunity. By grabbing it, you can give your business a competitive advantage.

Top Ten SEO Factors

These are what I believe to be the top 10 most important things (not necessarily in order) that you need, in order to get your website found in the search engines.

There are many other factors as well, but if you follow these guidelines, you’ll stand a much better chance, and you’ll be off to a good start.

1. Title Meta Tag

The title tag is what displays as the headline in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). It’s also what displays in the top blue band of Internet Explorer when your site is displayed.

Your title tag of your website should be easy to read and designed to bring in traffic. By that, I mean that your main keyword phrase should be used toward the beginning of the tag. True there are websites being found now that do not use the phrase in the title, but the vast (80%) majority still do as of this writing.

Don’t make the mistake of putting your company name first, unless you are already a household name, ike Nascar or HBO. People are likely searching for what you have to offer, not your name.

Your title tag should be written with a capital letter starting the tag, and followed by all lowercase letters, unless you’re using proper nouns. Some people prefer to capitalize every word, too. A proper title tag looks like this: Important Search Term | Company name, (but not necessary)

2. Description Meta Tag

The description tag is the paragraph that people will see when your page comes up in the search results.

Your description tag should be captivating and designed to attract business. It should be easy to read, and compel the reader to act right now and follow your link. Without a description tag, search engines will frequently display the first text on your page. Is yours appropriate as a description of the page?

A proper description tag looks like this:

3. Keywords Meta Tag

The importance of Meta keyword tags fluctuates from month to month among different search engines. There is a debate in the SEO community as to whether or not they help at all on certain search engines. In fact, in the summer of 2004 it appeared as if they were losing importance altogether.

However, you’ll NEVER be penalized on any search engines for using relevant targeted keywords in moderation, and they can only help you with most, especially Yahoo.

Avoid “stuffing” your keyword metatags with too many keywords. Just use relevant tags that apply directly to the content of that particular page, and don’t overdo it.

A proper keyword tag looks like this:

4. Alt Tags

The small yellow box that comes up when your mouse cursor is placed over an image is called the ALT tag. Every relevant image should have an alt tag with your key words or phrases mentioned in the tag. For example, the ALT description might be “Oregon Widget company logo” instead of “companynamelogo.jpg”.

A proper ALT tag goes after the file name, and before the Align indicator like this: (I’ve bolded it for visibility in the entire image tag)

* - The ALT tag is no longer being considered for ranking purposes by some earch engines. That said, it still cannot HURT you, and will still help you with some engines. My recommendation is to continue to use them, but be sure to avoid “keyword stuffing”. Besides, who nows when the pendulum will swing back the other way?

5. Header Tags

The text of each page is given more weight by the search engines if you make use of header tags and then use descriptive body text below those headers. Bullet points work well too. It is not enough to merely BOLD or enlarge your text headlines.

A proper header tag looks like this: align=”center - right etc”

6. Link Text

Search engine spiders cannot follow image links. In addition to having image links or buttons on your web pages, you should have text links at the bottom or elsewhere. The text that the user sees when looking at the link is called the “link text”. A link that displays “products” does not carry as much weight to the search engines as a link called “oregon widgets”. Link text is very important, and is actually one of the most frequently overlooked aspects of web design that I’ve seen.

7. Site Map

Using a site map not only makes it easy for your users to see the entire structure of your website, but it also makes it easier for the search engines to “spider” your site. When the search engine spiders come to visit, they will follow all of the text links from your main index page. If one of those links is to a site map, then the spiders will go right to the sitemap, and consequently visit every page you have text linked to from that site map. On the site map page, try to have a sentence or two describing each page, and not just a page of links.

8. Relevant Inbound Links

By relevant, I mean similar industry or subject related sites. Right now, no single strategy can get your site ranked higher faster than being linked to by dozens of other relevant websites. It used to be that the quantity of incoming links mattered most, but today, in November 2004, it’s much better to have three highly relevant links to you from other popular related websites than 30 links from unrelated low ranked sites. If there are other businesses in your industry that you can trade links with, it will help your site enormously. Link to others, and have them link to you. It’s proven, and it works. To see who’s linking to you, in Google type the following.

links: yourdomain.com

9. Your Content

Not to be forgotten of course, is the actual content of your webpage. It must be relevant helpful information that people want to read. These days, each webpage should be laser focused on one specific product or subject, in order to rank highly for that search phrase. The days of writing one webpage to appeal to dozens of search terms are long gone.

Ideally, each page should have between 400 to 650 words on it. Too few, and the search engines won’t consider it to be relevant enough. Too many words and the search engine spiders may have a hard time determining the actual subject or focus of the page.

Use your keywords or phrases often, and use them at the beginning of your paragraphs wherever possible. Don’t overuse them and make the page sound phony, but don’t write a page about a certain subject, and not mention that subject repeatedly either. Reading it out loud to yourself is a great way to judge how natural your text sounds.

Concentrate on writing quality pages that actually appeal to the human reader. Write pages that provide the reader with exactly what they are looking for; that is, information about the exact search phrase they’ve entered.

10. Avoid Cheating

With all of these tidbits of information, it’s tempting to think that you can stuff 100 keywords into your title, or create a page with the phrase “oregon widget company” being used 100 times in headers, text links, ALT tags, bullet points etc. but that cannot help you. In fact, it can penalize you, and get your website banned from certain search engines.

How to use Keyword Marketing

How to use Keyword Marketing

Keyword identification is critical to Search Engine optimisation process. The usage of right keywords definitely results in a high position in the search engine results.

Whatever be your product or service, it is important to find the correct keyword to target the niche market. Keyword marketing is all about building a successful web site.

Keyword identification becomes important before you start building content for your web site. A keyword is identified by focusing on the products and services of your company and the target audience you want to focus on.

With the increased prominence of keywords many specialised software companies have come up which offer keyword related services. They function as suggestion tools, either free or on payment basis.

Wordtracker

Wordtracker is one such tool. It helps you identify the correct keyword that can be used for successful internet marketing campaign. It gives you the correct keywords which your potential customers will use to find information on the products that you offer. In addition, Wordtracker also gives you the phrases that are most likely to be used by the customers when they search the web for information.

Ofcourse, they charge a small amount for their services!

Keywords are increasingly becoming important. You can gain in many ways by using the correct keywords in your website.

The “key” is ofcourse proper keyword marketing. Even a good keyword has to be properly marketed i.e, placed at the right place in right numbers.

Enhancing Meta tags, Titles and Body of the Text

Used appropriately keywords can give very good results. You must use them in the right density (number of words) and the right place within your website. For good results use them in the meta tags and title tags. But while using keywords in the body text, you need to be more careful. Over use of keywords can result in your text being called “spam”.

Keyword density of 5 - 20% is considered appropriate. You must ensure that keywords appear in a natural manner, flowing smoothly with the other words/phrases. You can get the help of the SEO experts for understanding the right use of keywords.

PPC Marketing

Keywords play an important role when building a PPC campaign. The keyword or the key phrase becomes important when you buy a PPC advertisement as it is all about bidding for the right keyword. To choose the correct keyword for PPC advertisement you need to have a proper understanding of the market, which will help you find the correct keyword. One of the basic reasons of placing so much importance on keywords is that with them you can get the best results for your investment. If you choose the correct keyword in a PPC campaign your web site visibility can increase manifold.

The Art of Selecting a Quilting Pattern

In the past, quilting patterns were handed down generation to generation. You could get new patterns that weren’t in your family from close friends. Today, with computers and the Internet there are literally thousands of quilting patterns at your fingertips. How do you select which quilting pattern to use?

Before you begin browsing quilting patterns, determine the purpose of your upcoming quilt. Will it be a gift for a specific occasion? Will it be a wall hanging, piece of clothing, bed cover, furniture cover or even a pillow?

Knowing what you are going to use the quilt for when it is done is the first step in selecting a quilting pattern. Some patterns look better on smaller projects and vice versa. Depending on your quilting skill, you might need several patterns for different sections of your quilt.

The next step in selecting a quilting pattern is to determine approximately what colors you will be using. For example, you would not want to use bright pink if it’s going to be a baby quilt for a newborn boy. A wedding quilt would be in light colors. Perhaps the quilt is a wall hanging and needs certain colors to compliment the room’s décor? Knowing what the quilt will be used for will help you determine roughly what types of colors that you want for the quilt.

Decide what types of materials you want to use for the quilt. Some quilting patterns do better with cotton fabrics, while others need different materials to do well. Will you be using high-loft or low-loft batting for the quilt piece? Will it be a batik piece? Knowing the type of material will help you select the best quilting pattern.

Write down your plans for the quilt. As you browse through the patterns available, disregard the ones that don’t fit the theme, colors or material that you will be using for your project. Select a design that catches your eye and will be enjoyable to work with. You can look at the colors on the quilting pattern picture to get an idea of what color schemes work best with that particular pattern and modify them to specifically meet your needs.

Many quilters purchase quilting patterns. Some purchase expensive software like EQ6 to generate patterns. Many choose to become members of the QuiltingResourceCenter.com and have access to a large number of quilting patterns that are easy to download and print. The advantage of doing this is that you can modify your design and colors easily since you can see the dimensions of the quilting pattern design and how it will fit together. There is a large selection of themes for the quilting patterns as well.

One fun use of quilting patterns is to learn new quilting techniques. Members at the QuiltingResourceCenter.com have access to a comprehensive library of quilting video tutorials, eBooks, audios and more. You can select a quilting pattern to try out a new quilting technique to add uniqueness to your future quilt projects.

Choosing the right pattern to personalize to match a quilt’s theme is essential to the success of every quilting project.

Jan Myers is the author of numerous articles and books on topics from organizational development and leadership to quilting. It was her avocation, the love of quilting, that inspired the popular online membership site for quilters known as the “world’s largest quilting bee” at http://www.QuiltingResourceCenter.com.

Why Most Independent Artist Fail!

This is a question that I am most commonly asked. The answer is pretty simple - most independent artist do not understand that concept of marketing let alone online marketing.

Obviously I can not cover an entire marketing course in this article but I can however give you a few facts that will put you on the right road.

The first thing that you MUST do is learn to put yourself in the shoes of your target audience or in this case your fans. That is a lot easier said than done. Without a fan base you do not have a music career.

As a independent artist it is crucial that you own your own domain name. If you have MySpace as your primary internet presence you are making a huge mistake. Now before you go on a rant allow me to explain.

If you are using MySpace as your Internet presence you are placing your entire career in the hands of another company. Lets say that you have spent your time and effort in promoting your MySpace page and everyone knows that is where they can find you. You wake up tomorrow to realize that MySpace has decided to shut down while the getting is good. Where does that put you? I’ll tell you where back at square one!

No I’m not suggesting that you forget about MySpace I’m just telling you it is a bad idea to have MySpace as your primary website.

MySpace should be used to drive traffic back to your domain, where you have control over your destiny.

Another common mistake that I see independent artist doing is they fail to invest in the business aspect of their careers. No I am going to guess that when you just read that last sentence you probably said to yourself, “I do invest into my career.” If you do not have at least one Internet Marketing book or eBook you my friend are on the wrong track.

I can pretty much bet that you have your webpage set up all wrong.

Nine out of ten independent artist’s websites are what I like to call, “look at me websites.” The harsh reality of it all is nobody knows you! When a potential fan comes to your site they have one thing on their mind and one thing only, and that is WIIFM! That stands for “What’s In It For Me!” They want to know what do you have to offer them - why should they come to your website over the million other independent artist? This is were your marketing strategies come into play!

I know this is going to sound a little crazy but lets role play for a few minutes. Let’s say that you are a country music fan (the genre doesn’t matter) and you go to a website and a video pops with a young lady on it and she says, “I just want to thank all of my fans, for showing up at my last concert, and I appreciate your support… In fact I have two free tracks that I just posted for you online… Let me show you where to go download them now.” POW the video ends and you are automatically taken to a special download area exclusively for the fans!

How do you think that would make a fan feel? Do you think that someone would actually go and download the special fan tracks - located is an exclusive area… Your dog on right they will.

I hope that this article sparked that marketing genius that dwells deep inside of all of us. I wish you the best of luck with your music career and I hope that I have the opportunity to do a personal interview with you real soon.

5 Ways In Which You Can Use Fine Lingerie

The uses of fine sexy lingerie are as varied as one’s imagination, so there’s no limit on how you present it and yourself. The purpose, of course is to enjoy yourself while doing it! We’ve covered a few suggestions below.

1. Plan a Strip Tease

You can use your sexy lingerie in many ways, but a fun one would be to plan a strip tease with your partner. This will take a bit of planning as you’ll want to have plenty of time, so choose a day and time when both of you will be fresh and not tired after a long day at work. Pick a very sexy Teddy, Baby Doll, etc. and get a feather boa and you’re ready to go. I’m sure both of you would enjoy yourselves immensely!

2. Lingerie Party

A lingerie party, which is like a Tupperware party only with intimate apparel, would be a very fun and exciting way to host a get together with your close friends, along with potentially making a few extra dollars. This is a great way to showcase your lingerie in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

3. Romantic Gift for A Special Occasion

Fine sexy lingerie is a terrific way to surprise your partner on those special occasions. One thing to keep in mind, though, before buying, is to be observant and take notes in general on what the recipient likes and doesn’t like. What’s their favorite color? What style or styles of fine lingerie do they like? You get the idea! After all, you want to give something they’ll wear with enjoyment!

4. Showing Off to Your Partner

Fine sexy lingerie is a great way to bringing out your sexy and romantic side to your partner. Men love to see women in fine lingerie, so it’s a wonderful way to make an intimate occasion more meaningful.

5. Feeling Good About Yourself

You don’t have to actually purchase fine sexy lingerie to show off to anyone, but rather to feel good about yourself. Nothing helps a woman feel sexier and more confident about herself than to know that she’s wearing fine lingerie under her clothes, although no one else sees it.

This is just the tip of the iceberg on the many uses of your fine sexy lingerie. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination and come up with more. And most important and above all, have fun!
